Melanie K. Cook, General Manager, Sourcing GE Appliances
Melanie Cook was born in Lorain, Ohio. She attended the University of Florida and graduated in 1995 with a B.S.B.A. degree with a specialty in Decision and Information Sciences. She then joined General Electric in the Information Management Leadership Program where she specialized in data warehousing and building the IT infrastructure in Asia. In 1997, she joined GE’s Corporate Audit Staff (CAS) and remained for five years through to Executive Audit Manager for GE Capital Europe based in London. During her CAS tenure she completed assignments in 11 GE businesses at various global locations.
In 2003, Melanie joined GE Plastics as the Global Market Director for the Transportation segment responsible for driving new products and growth. In 2006, she was promoted to President Azdel Inc., a leader in thermoplastic composites for the automotive sector. Azdel was a joint venture between PPG and GE prior to Melanie leading the sale of the business in 2007.
Melanie then joined GE Energy in 2009 as the General Manager, Industrial Communications product line, consisting of GE MDS wireless and GE Lentronics multiplexer industrial solutions for critical applications in the energy and oil & gas sectors.
She moved to Louisville, KY and joined GE Appliances in 2011 as the GM Cooking Products. The Cooking division consists of free standing ranges, wall ovens, cooktops, and ventilation and microwave products.
Melanie took on her current role of GM Sourcing in 2014. She is responsible for the global procurement of all sourced finished goods, direct/indirect materials and affiliates with approximately $4.7B in spend.
Melanie serves on three boards. She is honored to be on the Board of Trustees and a former Board Member of Family Scholar House with a mission to end the cycle of poverty through education. Melanie also serves on the Board of MABE, headquartered in Mexico City. She also recently advanced to become the Chair of AHAM (Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers) located in Washington D.C.
She is the proud parent of Eve, 12 and Ethan, 11. Her husband Brian is a GE alumni and is a full time care provider. She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, sports and enjoying friends & great food!
